The PPQ (Pastor Paycheck Question) AND a Kate Bush bonus track! I love it.

I don't have an answer to the PPQ. But I've been trying on a few explanations -- not justifications -- just explanations. One is the entertainment model: the pastor is the community's celebrity and, well, here in the US of A we give celebrities money. Guaran-damn-tee it.

Another is the government/tax model. We've settled into some twisted view of the church as being more like a country than a spiritual kingdom. And countries have governments supported by taxes. So we mentally account for the tithe as more of a tax than as God's money. And since the pastor is the president-character, he gets paid out of the tax revenues.

    Or not.

Thanks, Craig. I know that it is not strictly legitimate to include copyrighted music in a podcast, but who will really cut up my podcast to save $.99 they would spend downloading it from iTunes? Doesn't make sense to me, but last I checked they aren't seeking my counsel. Too bad for them.

Plus - your podcast actually generated $2.97 for a record company a few weeks ago. After I heard Mark Cohn on one of your casts, I went to iTunes and bought "True Companion" and 2 of his other songs. Maybe that will help when the copyright police come knocking. ;-)

Thanks for making my point, Craig. Any more questions, RIAA?

By the way, does True Companion not tug the tears out of a guy's 40-something heart? Or is it just me?

Yeah - that song is a powerful artwork. And on the Dad side, I'm usually incapable of speech by the end of the movie "Father of the Bride."
